Just in case you need it: SOME JUSTIFICATION FOR ATTENDING

When the PSM/MI Rules were enacted, API developed API 510 and 570 as RAGAGEP for inspections to
ensure design basis maintenance knowing the reality of equipment degradation. From the beginning both
510 and 570 required a) the identification of damage mechanisms and b) appropriate inspections to be
conducted that would detect degradation of equipment prior to encroaching on the design basis. Ask
yourself:
• Have you done an adequate job identifying damage mechanisms to be monitored and
• Required your engineers/inspectors (whether in-house or contracted) to provide you a remaining life
calculation or action plan to maintain the design basis?
We hope to impress upon attendees that if they are to be successful the following are essential program
elements, missing any of these the program is doomed to failure. Ask your self, am I missing any of these
essential elements?
• Management Commitment (including an appropriate budget),
• Policies and Procedures to ensure consistency,
• Training and qualification of personnel,
• Tools to do the work, and
• Audit of the work to ensure it is done correctly.
If the answer to these questions is: a) I don’t know or b) We have not done this . You should attend this one
day seminar to review and help you understand the benefits of using available technology and aligning your
actions to your company business case on a daily basis.
